Background
Demon Parasol is the name of a game team at DigiPen that I was a member of during my Sophomore year. Our team was making a Japanese inspired game featuring yokai, supernatural demons of Japanese folklore. Our game featured a possessed umbrella that acted both as a guide and tool for the player in the game. From there, the team name Demon Parasol came to be and we decided to use that as our team's name and logo.

Challenge
As the team's UX/UI designer, it was my goal to provide the team with a logo that could be used to represent the team both as an in-game graphic and also for stickers and team jackets. The name Demon Parasol was both strange and potentially off-putting, so I needed to make sure that the end graphic was not only representative of the subject matter, but approachable in a fun and quirky way. I took inspiration from the yokai that the team's name comes from and also from my years of graphic design knowledge to come up with the logo.
Reflections
The Demon Parasol logo is definitely one of the strangest logos that I have had the pleasure of creating in my time as a graphic designer. I was initially nervous that the content would be difficult to interpret and not easily understandable for a Western audience. After several iterations, I feel like the final product achieves being recognizable and also captures the fun, yet strange nature of an actual yokai. I still have my team jacket and every so often I get complements on the design of the logo.
